Broadway officially closed its doors in March 2020 due to the coronavirus epidemic. Tony winners Adra McDonald and Leslie Odom Jr. have been tapped to host the 74th annual Tony Awards, which will celebrate Broadway’s return.
According to USA Today, the four-hour show will air live on September 2 from the Winter Garden Theater in Manhattan. Odom will host from 9 pm-11pm ET / PT and McDonald from 7 pm-9pm ET / PT.

Six-time Tony winner MacDonald, also nominated for the role of Terrence McNally Claire de Lune Frankie and Johnny“When we look back, my biggest hope is that this show ushers in a new era for Broadway – a renewed commitment to inclusion and inclusion, as well as an appreciation of the sacred experience of live theater,” the statement said.
Odom added, “Broadway is a part of my DNA and I am thrilled to see it unfold again. Many talented artists are going back to work again and doing what they like for the audience who missed this great performance. The Tony Awards Present: I’m so happy to host Broadway Backs!
Today (September 1) is Broadway’s unofficial reopening. Audience members and Broadway staff need to be fully vaccinated or presented with negative test results.
