Ahmed Arberry speaks of his mother as soon as the murder trial begins National

Jury selection for the three Georgian men accused of the deaths began Monday Ahmed Arberry, More than a year and a half after he was shot dead while jogging through a neighborhood near his home.

Arberry’s mother, Wanda Cooper-Jones, Has long held that her son was targeted and killed by three men, white, because of his racism.

“I think Ahmed was killed because he was black,” he said in an interview CBS this morning. “He was jogging through a predominantly white neighborhood and he was noticed.”

“Everyone who watched the video said that Ahmed was not doing anything wrong,” Cooper-Jones said.

When asked if he believed a neutral jury could be selected in a three-man trial, Cooper-Jones admitted he was concerned.

“I have concerns, as judges will be chosen from this community,” he said. “There was a lot of miscommunication in the beginning about what happened that day, but I’m hopeful we’ll find the right people in the right place to make the right decisions.”

Shortly after the shooting, McMichales and Brian were released and were not charged until the Georgia Bureau of Investigation accepted the case. In May 2020, all three were charged with murder and will face trial from February, 2022.

In addition, all three have been charged with federal hate crimes and kidnapping.

Cooper-Jones Attorney Lee Merit He said the jury should reflect the diversity of the Brunswick community where the crime took place.

“Just because you heard about this case, just because you made an opinion on this case, doesn’t mean you can’t put that opinion aside and say, ‘I can be fair.’ And that’s the legal standard, ”he said.

According to CBS News, The jury election could take more than two weeks because 1,000 people were summoned.
