BREAKING: Russia Reportedly Invades Ukraine Shortly After Announcing Special Military Operation

On Wednesday, Russia invaded Ukraine, according to NATO. This came shortly after Putin announced that he had “decided to conduct a special military operation” to protect the eastern Ukraine’s Donbas region.

CBS News correspondents also reported hearing “loud blasts” in the capital city, Kyiv, and in the eastern city of Kharkiv, even though Putin previously stated he said his plans were not to include an occupation of Ukraine, CBS News also reported.

The invasion comes days after Putin recognized the self-declared “People’s Republics” of Donetsk and Luhanskin eastern Ukraine’s Donbas region, as independent, sending shockwaves across the globe and a new round of sanctions from the West. Putin also ordered Russian forces into the breakaway region for what he called “peacekeeping functions,” CBS News also reported.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that “Russia’s move to recognize the two territories is a clear attack on Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” CBS News reported.

Ukraine’s national security chief Oleksiy Danilov said lawmakers of Kyiv approved a National state of emergency, which “strengthens security of public places” on the outside of Donetsk and Luhansk.

It’s also reported that “Russia had massed roughly 190,000 forces near the Ukrainian border, and Mr. Biden on Friday said he was ‘convinced’ Putin had decided to invade.

Roomies, this is a developing story.
