Colin Powell passed away at the age of 84 due to complications related to covid

Roommate, we extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones of General Colin Powell. On Monday, his family announced his death by sharing a statement on his official Facebook page.

In the statement, they announced that he had died this morning from complications of Kovid-1 from, and shared that he had been fully vaccinated. They also thanked staff at Walter Reed National Medical Center, where he received his treatment.

According to CNN, A source familiar with General Powell’s condition further revealed that he had multiple myeloma, a cancer of plasma cells that suppresses the body’s immune system. It has been mentioned that although he was fully vaccinated, those who are immunocompromised have a chance of becoming infected with the virus.

Peggy Cifrino, Colin Powell’s longtime chief of staff, also confirmed to CNN that he suffered from Parkinson’s disease, saying, “In addition to multiple myeloma, Colin Powell also had Parkinson’s which put him at high risk with the immunocompromised system.”

General Powell achieved much in his career, including becoming the first black U.S. Secretary of State in 2001 under the administration of George W. Bush.

Bush said in a statement following the news of his death: “Many presidents relied on the advice and experience of General Powell. He was National Security Adviser under President Reagan, my father and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President Clinton, and Secretary of State during my administration. He was so popular with presidents that he won the Presidential Medal of Freedom – twice. He was highly respected at home and abroad. And most importantly, Colin was a family man and friend. Laura and I extend our heartfelt condolences to Alma and their children as they commemorate the life of a great man.
