FBI confirms finding Brian Laundry items near unidentified man’s body in Florida Reserve

Authorities found “things of interest” in the Florida Reserve as a result of the search for Brian Laundry, according to an FBI tamper tweet. The agency held a press conference on Wednesday afternoon to discuss their results. Special Agent in charge Michael McPherson confirmed that investigators found Brian’s backpack and notebook.

These items were found at Carlton Reserve on Wednesday morning. Agent Michael reveals that Brian’s two objects are located “near what appears to be human remains.” However, as of Wednesday evening, police had not been able to identify the bodies and confirm that they belonged to Brian.

As previously reported, Brian has been out of the grid for about five weeks. She went missing on September 11 after her fianc Gabby Petito received word that her family was missing. The couple had been traveling cross-country since June, when Brian returned to their home in North Florida in September alone.

Both Brian and his family did not initially cooperate with police when questioned about Gabby’s disappearance. His parents, Chris and Roberta Laundry, then told authorities on Sept. 17 that they had not seen or heard from their son since Sept. 14. According to their story, he told them he planned a hike to Carlton Reserve.

1 Gab September Gabby’s body is found in the Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming. A coroner later determined the cause of his death by suffocation. The arrest warrant for Brian was issued a few days later. Charges for using an unauthorized access device to use Gabby’s Capital One debit card.

Until recently, backpacks, notebooks and human remains were found in the water. Brian’s parents, Chris and Roberta Laundry, told the FBI on Tuesday night that they planned to search a trail in Mayakkahachi Creek Environmental Park – climbing the reserve. After a brief search this morning, parents and law enforcement officers found the items.

“Chris and Roberta Laundry were in reserve earlier today when human remains and some of Brian’s assets were in an area where they initially advised law enforcement that Brian could be,” said family attorney Steve Bartolino. “Chris and Roberta will wait for forensic identification of the human body before making any additional comments.”
