Kenyan Olympic long-distance runner Agnes Tirop has been stabbed to death at the age of 25. Her husband has been identified as a suspect.

Roommates, we extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones of Kenya’s long distance runner Agnes Tirop. Unfortunately she was stabbed to death in her home and police are now looking for her husband, whom they call a suspect.

According to CNNWhen police arrived at his home Wednesday, “Keo North Sub County Police Commander Tom McCormack said,” they found him in a bed of blood under the bed and a lot on the floor. He continued, “When the police looked at the corpse, it seemed that he had been stabbed in the neck in what we consider to be a knife.”

Police called Agnes’ husband, Emanuel Ratich, a suspect and said he had called his parents to say he had “done something wrong.” Makori added, “So we believe he knows what happened.”

Agnes took part in the competition Olympic Games in Tokyo This year and finished fourth in the 5000m event, and back in September, she broke the world record in the 10km women-event. Throughout his career, he became a bronze, gold and silver medal winning runner.

Sebastian Co Agnes, president of World Athletics, said of the passing, “Agnes Zebett Tirop, the world cross country champion at just 1 year old, made her world stage debut in 2015 and has been one of the best female distance runners in the world for the past six years. This is a terrible blow to the entire athletics community, but especially to his family, his friends and Athletics Kenya and I extend my heartfelt condolences to all of them.
