Nevaeh Allen, 2, was found dead

A missing Baton Rouge child was found dead in Mississippi on Sunday (Sept. 2) and authorities arrested his stepfather, NBC News reported.

Nevah Allen, 2va, went missing from his home on Friday (September 24) and was rescued in Hancock County, the media reported, citing the Baton Rouge Police Department.

Louisiana State Police said the baby’s older siblings came home from school to see the door to their apartment open, and Nevah, known to his loved ones as NU Nu, was missing.

Philip Gardner, his stepfather, told investigators that he last saw Neva before going to bed around 1pm on Friday.

However, the baby’s mother, Lanaya Cardwell, told reporters that her daughter had no history of wandering away from home.

“I never had to correct Neva for leaving home without an adult. Neva knows better,” said Cardwell, who saw his daughter alive Friday morning when he went to work.

The frustrated mother shared her story.

Baton Rouge police arrested Gadner on Sunday on charges of unlawful disposal and obstruction of justice. He was booked into East Baton Rouge Prison.

The East Baton Rouge parish coroner’s office is expected to conduct an autopsy, FoxLlive.com reported. Additional charges could be brought against Gardner after determining the cause of Corona’s death.
