Who is Whethan and what do you stand for?
Whethan to me is a consistent evolution of my artist dialogue; it’s my energy and inspirational outlet. The core of the project is to inspire, bring joy, and connect everyone together, and ultimately make people want to dance.
Tell us about your sound – where does your style originate from and what have been your biggest visual, social, and sonic influences?
I started experimenting with dubstep and hip hop, and it’s evolved over time into a combination of all my influences, going back to acts like Skrillex, Ye, Tame Impala, etc. I’ve bounced around from future bass to alternative music, and everything in between.
Was there a definitive turning point to your success? When did you realize the magnitude of your impact within the industry / community?
I don’t know if you ever fully realize your impact and reach, but one moment that made me realize that I’ve actually made a mark is when I got to tour with Skrillex and play for the most amazing fans in countries that I never thought I’d even get to travel to.

What was your reaction when you became a gold selling artist?
Ever since I started making music, I always dreamed of having gold records. When the first one came in, it all felt surreal, but the ultimate goal now is to go diamond.
What are you most excited about for your upcoming performance at M3F and are there any artists you are excited to see?
Really excited to debut my new project and play my first festival in the new year. I miss the festival energy. As far as artists I’m excited to see, Kaytranda and Jai Wolf are on the top of my list.
You have had an amazing career in music at such a young age. What more would you like to accomplish in your career?
I want to check out more icons off my list, grab a few Grammys, and of course help my friends make their best music.
In what ways have you pushed yourself beyond existing self-imposed limitations?
Mainly just locking myself in the studio and experimenting. These last 2 years I’ve worked with so many different artists, and was a part of so many amazing records that have come out.
What’s next for Whethan?
You’ll find out very soon. We’ve been keeping a lot of secrets quiet for some time (Sorry Bout That).
What do you wish for the future of electronic music? In what ways would you like to see it evolve?
I hope it continues to pull influence from all different genres and sounds, because I think that’s what’s going to make the most ground breaking tracks.
Any last words for the SPIN-verse?
