While many were outraged when pictures of border patrol agents using whips on Haitian immigrants were published, Texas Governor Greg Abbott felt compelled to offer jobs to the same agents.
Earlier this week, he told FoxNews, “You have a job in the state of Texas. I will hire you to help Texas secure our borders.
He then went on to say that the pictures were of agents of horse tactics, not of whipping people. “The person who took these pictures said that the Democrats used their character as a whip for border patrols. It is a lie to whip those who were coming across the border,” he said. They were just riding horses, ”Abbott said.
The White House said the alleged use of the whip was “unacceptable.”
According to Reuters, pictures of Border Patrol agents on horseback were seen on immigrants returning from Mexico after buying food on Monday. The White House said in a statement that the photos, taken by journalist Paul Ratz, were “unacceptable and inappropriate.”
“I saw some footage. I don’t have the full context. I can’t imagine in what context it would be appropriate, “White House spokeswoman Jane Sackie told reporters. “I don’t think anyone would look at this footage and think it’s acceptable or appropriate.”
In addition, Psaki called the footage of the incident “horrible to look at”, but said “we need to get more information about him” before commenting further.
Asked if the agent should be fired, Sasaki said, “Of course they should never do it again.”
Homeland Security head Alejandro Mayorkas was also asked about the photo and said the reporter who asked him about the whip was “guessing the facts”, suggesting that the agent had probably been there for a long time.
