White House says whipping of Haitian immigrants ‘unacceptable’

TSR Politics: The White House is speaking out against some of the viral images shot on the U.S. southern border that show border patrol agents using whips against Haitian immigrants.

As previously reported, the Biden administration is planning to increase deportation flights to Haiti as more than 10,000 Haitians are currently taking refuge under a bridge in Del Rio, Texas.

According to Reuters, pictures of Border Patrol agents on horseback were seen on immigrants returning from Mexico after buying food on Monday. The White House said in a statement that the photos, taken by journalist Paul Ratz, were “unacceptable and inappropriate.”

“I saw some footage. I don’t have the full context. I can’t imagine the context in which it would be appropriate, “White House spokeswoman Jane Sackie told reporters. “I don’t think anyone would look at this footage and think it’s acceptable or appropriate.”

In addition, Psaki called the footage of the incident “horrible to look at”, but said “we need to get more information about him” before commenting further.

Asked if the agent should be fired, Saki said, “Of course they should never do it again.”

Homeland Security head Alejandro Mayorkas was also asked about the photo and said the reporter asked him about the whip to “guess the facts”, suggesting that the agent had probably been there for a long time.

“To ensure horse control, long bridles are used but we are going to verify the facts that the situation is as we understand it and if it is something different, we will respond accordingly,” Mayorkas said.

Regarding the possibility of agents using the whip, Mayorkas said, “We must look into the matter so that we do not have activity” which is “unacceptable”.
